Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Gusty winds and cooler temperatures will spread across the
  region today.

* Light showers are expected across the southern Great Basin
midweek as a low pressure system sits over central Nevada.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Today through the weekend.

A strong low pressure system will drop into the region from the
Pacific Northwest today. This system will bring cooler than normal
temperatures to the region with temperatures dropping around 7 to 15
degrees from today to tomorrow. Gusty southwesterly winds will
accompany this system with winds picking up later this morning as
this low pressure system and associated 30 to 50 knot 700 mb jet
move into the area. Elevated winds will linger across the region
into Thursday with southerly winds picking up across northern
Arizona tomorrow as the jet shifts overhead. Temperatures will
gradually increase during the second half of the week, returning to
near normal as we head into the weekend and the system clears out of
the area.

As the center of this low pressure system settles over the
southwestern Great Basin on Wednesday and Thursday, precipitation
chances will increase across Inyo County and the southern Great
Basin. Given the more inland trajectory of this system,
precipitation is expected to be light-to-moderate and favor areas of
higher terrain.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package... Breezy

operationally significant cloud cover.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Southerly gusts will
pick up across the Las Vegas Valley and Colorado River Valley this
morning, with veering direction and increasing gust speeds through
the afternoon. KBIH will begin from the south before veering from
the west from downslope winds in the afternoon with gust speeds
around 30 kts. Post-frontal north winds expected late-afternoon into
sunset with speeds around 40 kts, then rapidly falling off
overnight. KDAG will gust from the west throughout the TAF period,
peaking between 40 and 45 kts in the afternoon. No operationally
significant cloud cover.
